PHYSICAL EDUCATION @ CIS
Welcome to the wonderful world of Physical Education! This is the only course, which, by the very nature of its content, has the potential to affect how a person feels every moment of every day for the rest of their life.
Effort, cooperation, teamwork and safety remain important factors in physical education. Through positive experiences in PE and practicing fundamental movement and sport skills, students develop physical literacy and the confidence and competence to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
The main goals of Physical Education are:
1. To develop a positive attitude toward physical activity
2. To develop the whole individual
3. To promote life long participation in physical activity
The Physical Education Department at CIS follows the Alberta Program of Studies and offers its students a wide range of physical activities from all five dimensions: individual activities, dance, types of gymnastics, alternative environment and games. Students are given the opportunity to participate, understand, acquire skill, and enjoy physical activities, so that they may be motivated to pursue these activities throughout their 'school lives' and beyond.
The structure of Physical Education enables students to enjoy lessons and be able to take part at their own level whilst fulfilling their own potential. Furthermore, the program encourages the students to extend themselves fully where appropriate.
Students are encouraged to work with others as part of a team, as well as focusing on their individual performances. Throughout the course students are made aware of the effect of exercise on the body, and the importance of physical exercise for their future health.
The school will offer a number of after school sports teams and clubs that will be available to a various age groups throughout the year.
